Pattern: Chevron Knit Baby Blanket

It was a long road to welcome our son into the world. Throughout my pregnancy, I needed something to keep my mind (and hands) busy from thinking too much about everything that could possibly go wrong.

The chevron pattern of this baby blanket represents the ups and downs of my journey to become a mom. It was a labor of love for our rainbow baby boy. It is my hope that this pattern will also help others create a beautiful, treasured baby blanket!

Materials

Yarn

I used 5 skeins of Magpie Fibers Quartet Worsted yarn to create this blanket. This blanket uses 4 colors, but it could easily be adapted to a 5 color blanket by splitting the MC (pictured in white) into two sections.

Below are the colors used for the blanket pictured here.

• MC: Fior di Latte (2 skeins)
• CC 1: Midnight Train to Georgia
• CC 2: Magpie
• CC 3: Tulepo Extra

Below is the yardage needed to complete the blanket. Any worsted weight yarn will work.

• MC: 400 yards
• CC 1: 200 yards
• CC 2: 200 yards
• CC 3: 200 yards

Needles & Notions

This pattern is knit flat, but I recommend circular needles to hold all of your stitches. You will need US size 7 4.5mm circular needles with at least 36 inches of cable to hold the stitches. I recommend having a craft needle as well to weave in the ends.

Finished Size

• Width: 28 1/2 inches
• Length: 34 1/2 inches

Gauge after blocking (using stockinette stitch): 4” x 4” = 16 stitches x 20 rows

Abbreviations

This pattern is written in standard US terms.

• CO: Cast on
• P: Purl
• K: Knit
• S1wyif: Slip one with yarn in front
• MC: Main color
• CC: Contrasting color

Pattern

CO 139 stitches in CC 1.

Setup rows:

Rows 1 & 2: Knit all stitches to the end of the row until 1 stitch remains. Sl1wyif.

Chevron Section:

Row 1: K3, SSK, *k4, YO, k1tbl, YO, k4, CDD* repeat this section 9 additional times, k4, YO, k1tbl, YO, k4, k2tog, k2 sl1wyif

Row 2: K3, P6, *Ptbl, P11,* repeat this section 9 additional times, Ptbl, P6, K2, Sl1wyif

Repeat rows 1 & 2 three more times (a total of 8 rows for each Chevron)

Divider Section:

Rows 1 &2: K3, purl until 3 stitches remain, K2, sl1wyif

Change the yarn to the next color based on the chart below.

Color that you are using	Color to switch to
CC 1	CC 2
CC 2	CC 3
CC 3	MC
MC	Continue using MC for the first repeat so that there are two chevron sections using the MC, then switch CC 1.

Rows 3 & 4: Knit to the last stitch, sl1wyif

Pattern Repeats:

You have completed the first chevron section with CC1 and switched to CC2.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section with CC 2.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section with CC 3.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section twice with MC.

Repeat the Chevron Section and diver section with CC 1.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section with CC 2.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section with CC 3.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section twice with MC.

Repeat the Chevron Section and diver section with CC 1.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section with CC 2.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section with CC 3.

Repeat the Chevron section and divider section twice with MC. Cast off instead of switching to CC1 for rows 3 & 4 of the diver section.

You should have three sets of contrasting chevron stripes between your MC sections. Weave in any loose ends and block.
