Holiday Gift Guide for Knitters: Under $30

  • December 4, 2020December 28, 2020

It’s 2020, and everyone deserves to treat themselves to something special this year! From stocking stuffers to kits, here’s a roundup of the best gifts for knitters, crocheters, weavers and everyone in between.

Holiday gift guide for knitters

Stocking Stuffers

SELF-STRIPING FRANKENSOCKS ($3.00 USD)

These self-striping sock balls come in mini balls. You will need about 10 total to make an adult-sized pair of socks. The fun assortment of colors will make for a creative and unique pair of socks

KNITTERS GONNA KNIT T-SHIRT ($20.70 USD)

The perfect loungewear option for the knitters in your life.

Yarns

O-WOOL, O-WASH CHUNKY ($21 USD)

This is my new favorite chunky yarn option. It comes in a broad assortment of colors. It is incredibly soft and is made with a GOTS certified organic compound to create washability. Beautiful, machine washable, organic merino yarn? Yes, please.

KELBOURNE WOOLENS, SCOUT ($16 USD)

Scout by Kelbourne Woolens is one of the most versatile yarns I have ever used. It is 100% wool and is perfect for wearable items like hats, scarves, sweaters, gloves and more.

THE PETITE WOOL, WE ARE KNITTERS ($14 USD)

This is another go-to favorite, perfect for wearable items. This 100% wool is soft and very easy to knit.

HICKORY LANE HANDMADE, WINTER COLLECTION (price varies)

I’m obsessed with pretty much every color in this collection. Is it too much to order them all?

Patterns

BAYRON HANDMADE, WAVE OF CHANGE JACKET ($9 USD)

This gorgeous jacket gets its name from the purl ridges throughout the jacket. But it also embodies hope for a more inclusive future in the maker community. I love this pattern because it is gender and size-inclusive. The pattern includes tips to customize the jacket to best fit your body.

PETITE KNIT, SEQUENCE SWEATER ($6.53 USD based on current exchange rate)

This top-down knit sweater pattern has interest but is also simple enough for a beginner to follow.

DEBROSSE, MODERN CROCHET ($24.99 USD)

One of these days I will actually get around to teaching myself how to crochet. When that day comes, this book is first on my wish list.

Tools & Notions

CURIOUS CLAY, CERAMIC BEADS ($6.00 USD)

These beads by Philadelphia-based artist Curious Clay are perfect to add interest to a knit or woven piece. These beads could be used for a woven plant hanger or to add interest to a knit scarf.

WE ARE KNITTERS, BEECHWOOD KNITTING NEEDLE ($6.00 USD)

These needles have a fun pop of color! Beechwood is a great option and nice to hold while you are knitting. I personally prefer using wooden needles over metal or plastic.

Where to Shop Small

I am very passionate about supporting small businesses where possible. Many local artisan and fiber supply shops have been hard hit this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. They need your support to stay in business. Here are a few shops in the Greater Philadelphia area to support this year in your shopping, whether in-store or online.

WILD HAND, Mount Airy

HIDDEN RIVER YARN, Manayunk

LOOP, Graduate Hospital and Newtown Square

PURLS OF WISDOM, Phoenixville

ECHO VALLEY FIBER, Newtown
