New Neighborhood, Same Knits
My Resolution for 2020
I’m notorious for not keeping my new year’s resolution. Every year in January I am gung-ho about starting my new exercise program and eating healthy. I do try to exercise regularly when I have time, but the daily hustle slowly creeps in as time at the gym slowly fades out.
But last year, I made a resolution that I actually kept. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved knitting. As a largely self-taught knitter, my mom would buy me books with patterns and yarn from Michaels. I loved the ability to knit something unique and handmade from scratch materials. Plus, I loved the idea of creating my own clothing and wearable knit items.
In 2019 I promised myself I would find more time to commit to doing something that I enjoy. And I have definitely found that in my knitting. Picking back up an old hobby started out slow. But I have been able to learn new patterns and knitting techniques, and I am continuing to learn. Turns out, finding resources to help you knit is a lot easier in 2019 (with the help of Pinterest, Instagram, Ravelry and YouTube) than it was when I was first learning in 2004. I started @sprucehillknits on Instagram as a way to find inspiration and save pattern ideas. It was also a way to avoid spamming my friends and family with photos and questions about yarn.
This year, my resolution is to continue to share more of my passion with others. A blog seemed like a natural fit since my day job is in digital marketing. This blog will be a place where I’ll share patterns, resources and tips and tricks that I’ve learned along the way as a knitter. Although I no longer live in Spruce Hill the name still seems fitting, and honestly, it just sounds like a pretty name for a blog.
Follow @sprucehillknits on Instagram and check back here for more blog posts and knitting patterns. Cheers to 2020!
