Pattern: Honeycomb Knit Scarf

  • September 24, 2022February 24, 2023

Looking for the perfect pattern to kick off your fall knitting? Look no further. This free knit scarf pattern is the perfect exercise in cable knitting. The pattern is comprised of two simple cables with the honeycomb stitch in the middle. The honeycomb stitch is aptly named. It resembles the hexagonal pattern of a bee’s honeycomb.

Materials

  • 3 skeins of Germantown by Kelbourne Woolens, or 660 yards (603 meters) of worsted weight yarn
  • US Size 6 (4mm) straight knitting needles
  • Cable needle
  • (optional) craft sewing needle to weave in the ends

This pattern uses one of my favorite yarns, Germantown by Kelbourne Woolens. I used three skeins to make the scarf pictured. The color used in the photos of this pattern is tan, although it has a slight mauve hue. It only comes out in the right lighting. It is a beautiful color with a lot of complexity to it.

If you are looking for a budget-friendly alternative, I recommend Lion Brand Yarn Heartland. This worsted weight yarn has some texture to it, which works beautifully with the cable texture of the pattern.

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Learn More.

Finished Size

After blocking, your piece should measure 86 inches long and 8 inches wide.

This pattern is really flexible. If you would like your scarf to be longer or shorter than the pattern calls for, then you can stop knitting early or knit a little extra until the desired length is reached.

Gauge is 16×20 stitches in stockinette stitch = 4 inches
